Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is offered at Austin’s Beau Visage Center. Anthony R. Bittar, M.D., can deftly correct sagging or puffy upper and lower eyelids, while minimizing scarring. Eyelid surgery can help restore beauty and youth to your eyes, and may even help to improve vision that is impaired by sagging eyelids. The eyes are a central part of any person’s appearance, and often among the first features that another person notices. If you wish to fully rejuvenate your appearance, eyelid surgery is a perfect partner to other cosmetic surgery procedures such as facelift or rhinoplasty.
If you are interested in eyelid surgery, contact our cosmetic surgery office in Austin today! During a consultation, you will have the opportunity to discuss your aesthetic needs and goals, and work together with Dr. Bittar toward developing a treatment plan that is ideal for you.
If you are unhappy with the appearance of the skin around your eyes, cosmetic eyelid surgery could be the answer you are looking for. There are two main eyelid surgery techniques, and they are designed to treat different areas around the eye:
Upper Eyelid Surgery - Upper eyelid surgery is a great way to tighten sagging upper eyelids. Often a result of aging, sagging upper eyelids can make you appear drowsy or even impair your vision. During the procedure, excess skin, muscle, and fat are removed from the upper eyelids. The goal is to create a more refreshed, youthful, and alert appearance, eliminating the sleepy look of sagging upper eyelids. Upper eyelid surgery is usually performed with local anesthetic. Dr. Bittar prevents scarring by limiting incisions to the natural creases in your eyelid. Sutures can be removed one week after surgery.
Lower Eyelid Surgery - To improve lower eyelids, transcutaneous eyelid surgery is employed. A small incision is made along the lash line and smile crease. The skin and muscles surrounding the lower eyelid can be tightened and excess fat removed through the incisions. Only the latest techniques are used to give your eyes the most rejuvenating look possible.
Upper and lower eyelids can be corrected in conjunction or separately. Both procedures are relatively short, outpatient procedures, but you will want to have a ride home lined up. Expect to stay home after eyelid surgery and limit activities for a few days while your eyelids heal properly. Recovery time is brief, and you can expect to return to your normal routines after several days. Any soreness can be treated with over-the-counter pain medication and normal eye drops can help if you experience dryness of the eyes.
After two weeks, the recovery and healing from eyelid surgery should be nearly complete, leaving you with refreshed, younger looking eyes. Most of our patients experience an appearance of renewed energy and appreciate no longer having to worry about looking weary or puffy because of their eyelids. The improved self-image is an incredible confidence boost. In addition to the aesthetic benefits of eyelid surgery, impaired eyesight due to sagging eyelids can also be remedied.
